We are doing field research on the Vía de la Plata, a Camino for real warriors if you ask me. This Camino follows the old Roman route and is no less than 1000 km long. It runs from Seville to Santiago through beautiful nature reserves. You will regularly find stages of 30 km without bars or any civility. We are sitting on the terrace with Darius (73) from Iran and Romi (23) from Germany. We are curious why they are walking the Camino. A special conversation starts.
Darius has been addicted to walking the Camino since 2008. He is disappointed that he discovered it so late. On the Camino he feels like he is really alive. He finds this so valuable. Especially because he increasingly realizes how short his life is. 'I speak to people here that I would otherwise never meet, great!'. Romi is walking a Camino for the first time. We think it is brave that she is starting this variant. She has been very ill. 'Here on the Plata my new life starts. I am so incredibly happy that I can do this'. Tears are streaming down her cheeks. Romi is giving herself all the time on this Camino to discover how she wants to fill in her new life, she is so excited about it. It is beautiful to see, she is beaming.
After lunch we walk back to our camper and are grateful for these special encounters. The next morning we wish them a 'buen camino' and continue our journey.
Are you working on personal development and curious about what a Camino can do for you? Then I would like to get in touch with you!
